Donations Support Initiative to Improve School Success in Central Jersey

LyondellBasell and its employees from the Edison Plant raised more than $31,000 for the United Way of Central Jersey for the 2013-14 campaign, including more than $4,900 in employee contributions along with the company match.

“This donation from LyondellBasell will help support a new initiative with the Edison School District designed to improve school success among lower income students,” said United Way of Central Jersey President and Chief Volunteer Officer Gloria Aftanski. “The new initiative will focus on providing the academic and social supports that prepare students for college and careers. Science, Math and Literacy will be among the academic supports that will be combined with social services that address social needs such as food and safety issues.”

Supporting the United Way has become an annual tradition and part of LyondellBasell’s continued commitment of giving back to the community. Each year the campaign helps fund thousands of programs, in communities across the country, that people in need have come to rely upon.

“The success of the United Way campaign speaks to the dedication of our employees to make a difference in our community,” said Edison Plant Site Manager David Schrutka.

The generosity of LyondellBasell and its employees resulted in a total contribution of $2.6 million to United Way agencies across the nation during the 2013-14 campaign.

“We would like to thank the LyondellBasell Edison Plant their support of programs that make a tremendous impact in the Central Jersey community,” said Aftanski. “Without the help of LyondellBasell and its employees, less would be accomplished.”
